1.  Purpose

To ensure a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants, mentors, judges, volunteers, and organizers. Every team member agrees to uphold these standards throughout the hackathon.
 

2.  Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all spaces—virtual and physical—associated with the Privacy Hackathon, including:

  • Official hackathon platform (e.g., Devpost, Slack/Discord channels, Google Meet rooms)
  • Email threads and social-media groups
  • Any in-person or online side events

 

3.  Expected Behaviour

All participants agree to:

  • Be Respectful: Treat everyone with courtesy and respect, regardless of background, identity, experience level, or opinions.
  • Be Inclusive: Welcome diverse perspectives, ask questions kindly, and encourage contributions from quieter team members.
  • Be Collaborative: Share knowledge freely, offer constructive feedback, and credit others’ contributions.
  • Be Professional: Honor deadlines, respond promptly to messages or mentorship invitations, and maintain a solution-focused attitude.
  • Protect Privacy: Handle all shared data and code in accordance with privacy best practices; do not share personal or sensitive information about others without their explicit consent.

 

4.  Unacceptable Behaviour

The following behaviours will not be tolerated:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in any form (verbal, written, visual, or physical).
  • Derogatory comments or slurs related to race, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age, or any protected characteristic.
  • Threatening or violent actions, including unwanted physical contact.
  • Sharing unsolicited personal data about other participants.
  • Disruptive trolling, baiting, or shaming.
  • Plagiarism of ideas, code, or designs without proper attribution.

 

5.  Reporting and Enforcement

  • Reporting: If you experience or witness a violation, please report it promptly to any member of the hackathon organizing team or via email to hackathon@isacaabuja.org with subject line “Code of Conduct Report.” Include as much detail as possible (who, what, when, where).
  • Response: All reports will be handled confidentially. Organizers will investigate, may ask follow-up questions, and will take appropriate action.
  • Consequences: Depending on severity, consequences may include:
  • Verbal or written warning
  • Removal from the hackathon platform or event
  • Disqualification of team from further participation
  • Notification of affected parties, and in extreme cases, involvement of legal authorities.

 

6.Acknowledgment

By participating in Privacy Hackathon 2025, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. Continuous participation signifies ongoing agreement.
